The Soft Moon + John Foxx + The Maths +

05. 19

After a pair of lauded releases in 2010’s self-titled LP + 2011’s Total Decay EP, The Soft Moon are proud to announce their forthcoming second LP, Zeros, due this fall for the ever-reliable Captured Tracks.

Additionally, The Soft Moon recently released a new song via Twitter that was created in collaboration with legendary electronic musician John Foxx & his new band The Maths. The track “Evidence” was born naturally out of the 2 artists’ mutual appreciation for one another. Speaking with Artrocker last year, Luis had this to say of John Foxx’s influence on his own music,“Foxx’s Metamatic album is what led me to discover the Arp Odyssey, the most crucial instrument in my collection, and the key synthesizer used in creating my unique sound. So, that album is very important to me and what I do.” With regard to the collaboration, John Foxx said, “The Soft Moon are where minimalism maximises into a new universe of possibilities. It’s an absolute joy for us to work with them.” This momentous collaboration will be memorialized with a one-sided 7” featuring “Evidence” due June 26th via Captured Tracks.

Listen to “Evidence”, the result of their collective labor below now, & prepare yourself for Zeros.

Toothy Wavy + Isaiah Toothtaker + The Hood Internet + Max B +

05. 18

Much like the Wonder Twins or Voltron, good things only get better when you bring them together. Over the past few months, Мишка has been slowly but steadily dropping tracks + videos from the highly anticipated album Toothy Wavy, & its finally here.

Toothy Wavy is a collaborative project between Machina Muerte head Isaiah Toothtaker, incarcerated rapper Max B, & production duo The Hood Internet. Toothy Wavy brings together all three artists’ unique styles, ending up with something you’ve never quite heard before.

Toothtaker, in addition to rapping on the tracks & providing hooks, also helmed most of the videos (of which there was one for each track), while The Hood Internet handled all of the beats, and Max B recorded his verses through the prison phone line.

Download the release for free at Bandcamp.

Elite Gymnastics + electronic + experimental +

05. 17

After a month of touring with Sleigh Bells, incredible responses for their RUIN 3 website & an amazing Korallreven remix/video, Elite Gymnastics would like to share the lead track from their just-released RUIN 4 package.

One of two original tracks included in the package, “Life/Trap” was a demo for the original RUIN 1 & 2 EP that did not end up making the final version. Updated with new production & mixed by Montreal’s CFCF, the track represents a step forward from the project’s previous material.

Out now on Acéphale, RUIN 4 should not be thought of as a standard CD release. It’s more of a fan package - including a shirt, poster, buttons & of course a CD.

With the Sleigh Bells tour under their belt, Elite are playing a couple of select shows next month in New York + Miami.

SSION + electronic pop + live dates + Nightfeelings +

05. 16

Hailing from Kansas City’s unexpected art-scene, SSION has reached the apex of synth-pop perfection with the album Bent, out August 7th on Dovecote. Led by the charismatically avant gender outlaw Cody Critcheloe, SSION creates music that is simultaneously dance inducing + cheekily crass & that irreverently pokes fun at contemporary culture. Tracks are meticulously crafted with reverbed synth, deep bass & vocals that verge on the addictive. Critcheloe’s creativity is not bounded by music making, as he has been commissioned to produce music videos for a multitude of heavyweights in the unconventional-pop world, including Peaches, Gossip, CSS + Santigold as well as promotional videos for the vibrant outsider designer & fellow Kansas City local, Peggy Noland. Drawing from a multifaceted artistic background, SSION is a total multimedia experience playfully on the vanguard of culture, replete with high-concept visuals, performance, costuming & make-up. The enhanced hard copy re-release of Bent will include previously unreleased bonus tracks + remixes from MNDR, Grimes, Nightfeelings, Physical Therapy & more.

Bent features the lushly reverbed introverted single “My Love Grows In The Dark.” In the accompanying video, conceived & produced by Critcheloe, the front man portrays himself as the antithesized pop-star, journeying through a surreal house of androgynous dancers & confronted with issues of representation, indifference + intimacy. The track got a dreamy disco remix treatment by Nightfeelings (Nick Weiss of Teengirl Fantasy) & is available for free download below. SSION not only nods to the most influential & iconic pop artists of the past, but also stands to carve out its own place in the future as a whole new breed of pop.

SSION will play select live dates across on the east + west coast, appearing with Gossip, JD Samson & Sharon Needles. He will also be performing at this year’s San Francisco Pride.

DARKSIDE + Nicolas Jaar + Dave Harrington + electronic + video +

05. 16

DARKSIDE began when a converter plug exploded in Nicolas Jaar & Dave Harrington’s Berlin hotel room during their summer tour. When the smoke cleared, their white Genelec speakers were fried. But rather than retiring for the night, they plugged into a computer & merged sounds, forming DARKSIDE.

The duo continued their symbiosis after returning to New York. Dave’s indie rock bravado & Nico’s electronic percussion came together in a series of Brooklyn recording sessions. In their dim basement studio, Dave’s soprano licks + Nico’s falsetto converged as they formed a 3 track, self-titled EP.

Check out their 1st video for “A1” directed by Pomp&Clout/Ryan Staake. Stream the 3 tracks right after.
