One To Watch: Silent Rider

Meet Reed Kackley, an electronic/downtempo producer from Brooklyn, NY who operates under the moniker: Silent Rider. Y’all know that I get very excited with emerging & promising acts & Silent RIder is one of them.

Last year, Silent Rider self-released his debut LP, which is up for free download on his website. Additionally, he just dropped a phenomenal EP for the latest single, “I Was A Bomb”, featuring stellar remixes by Drop The Lime, Tony Quattro, VATICANS, Skruncha-roo & CRANKS. Get the 6-track EP for free HERE & listen to my favorites below.

If you digg Silent Rider as much as I do, there’s an exclusive Q+A session right after the streams. Get to know him, I’m positive he’ll be making a lot of noise this year.

01. Describe Silent Rider in 3 words:
Somber Electronic Pop

02. First record you ever bought?
I’m not sure of the exact title but it was Looney Toons singing The Beatles.

03. What are the 5 most played songs in your iPod?
5. The xx - Heart Skipped A Beat
4. Alt-J - Taro
3. Radiohead - Codex
2. Local Natives - Wide Eyes
1. Radiohead - Reckoner

04. What posters did you have on your wall as a kid?
Limp Bizkit was my centerpiece for sure. I also had a Space Jam poster.

05. What’s your favorite thing you own?
My Adam A5X monitors. I think DIY producers tend to develop close relationships with their in-house/at-home monitors. You have to spend a lot of time getting to know them and then putting a lot of trust in them.

06. Name 3 things you need when you travel.
1. Hair product
2. Headphones
3. Internet connection

07. Favorite city to play?
With Silent Rider I’ve only played in New York so I would have to say NY!

08. Stupidest thing you’ve done in the last 12 months?
Passed on an opportunity to see Miike Snow (for free) live at Terminal 5 in the Spring. Luckily, I’ve seen then before but they are really a mind blowing live experience.

09. What do you fear the most?
A lack of time to accomplish all the things I plan to.

10. Current obsession:

11.We all have a bad habit, what’s yours:
Forgetting to bring reading material for the subway. I’m constantly underground with no phone service and nothing to read so I end up bored out of my mind, staring at the ground for a solid hour or two every day.

12. What’s next for Silent Rider?
At the moment it is morphing into a 4-piece, my live band turned actual band. We have begun working on new material and are hoping to start touring in the near future. A cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love”, slated for late January/early February, will be the first release featuring the new full-band sound.
